Nigma, Quincy Crew, and Vici Gaming go home: the results of the fourth day of WePlay AniMajor Playoffs
The penultimate game day of WePlay AniMajor has come to an end. After it, 3 teams went home, and the remaining 3 will fight for the title of a champion today. In the meantime, we'll look at yesterday's matches.
Evil Geniuses 2:0 Nigma
The first match of the day was between Evil Geniuses and Nigma. This match was the main intrigue. Will Nigma get the last invitation to The International 10? For that, they had to win and advance to the finals of the Major.
Before the start of the match, Nigma was considered the favorite due to the high expectations for the European team. Some gave odds of 1.5-1.6 to win, but the pressure and the perfect play of Evil Geniuses kept them from advancing. As a result, they took 5th-6th place in the tournament and lost the direct invite.
Vici Gaming 2:1 Quincy Crew
Next began the second quarterfinal of the Lower bracket between Vici Gaming and Quincy Crew. The teams had already received the invitations and fought for the higher prizes. Before the match, analysts predicted an easy victory for Vici Gaming. The odds of their victory were equal to 1.3.
The match turned out to be even more interesting than analysts had predicted. Unexpectedly, the first map ended in 24 minutes with a win for Quincy Crew. Then Vici Gaming managed to take control and show the game that was expected from them. As a result, Quincy Crew lost the series with a 1:2 score and took 5th-6th place in the Major.
Evil Geniuses 2:1 Vici Gaming
The Lower bracket semifinal between Evil Geniuses and Vici Gaming kicked off the third. Unlike the previous majors, the semifinals started right after the quarterfinals without any intermission. It was even harder for Vici Gaming as they had no time to rest.
The first and second maps practically mirrored each other. The teams that seized the initial advantage successfully developed it and ended the map in their favor. The third map was the most interesting in the series: it lasted more than 50 minutes, half of which Vici Gaming couldn't leave their base. However, this didn't prevent them from successfully fighting and holding off the Evil Geniuses onslaught. The game ended with a mistake made by Vici Gaming's curry, ??poyoyo, who failed to put Chronosphere in the right place at the right moment. The final score of the match was 2:1 in favor of Evil Geniuses.
PSG.LGD 2:1 T1
PSG.LGD and T1 closed out the Upper bracket final. Before the start of the match PSG.LGD was the favorite, with 1.1 odds.
The match itself developed in a strange way. PSG.LGD won the first and third map with ease, allowing the opponent to commit only 8 and 6 kills, but on the second map, T1 arranged a battle. The teams played more than 47 minutes, and T1 twice turned the meeting in their favor. The final score of the match was 2:1 in favor of PSG.LGD.
Today is the final day of WePlay AniMajor. There will be a Lower bracket final between Evil Geniuses and T1, and after that, the winner of that match will face PSG.LGD in the grand final.
