Virtus.Pro and Entity Upset Team Spirit and Team Liquid At 1win Spring Series
Two upsets occurred in the Playoffs of the 1win Series Spring, with the two tournament favorites failing to claim the trophy.
Virtus.Pro 2-0 Team Spirit
Virtus.pro, a team that has a 0-5 head-to-head record against Team Spirit, has finally won against their big brothers since January 2023.
In the first map of the series, all three Virtus.pro cores played clean games to dominate the game. Though it took some time, the underdogs could win the map after 44 minutes with Kiritych and squad1x going 16/3/14 and 15/2/21, respectively.
Team Spirit bounced back in the second map, taking decent control over the game. However, after a disastrous teamfight, Virtus.pro was back into the game like it was nothing. In the game-deciding Roshan fight, Kiritych's Lifestealer was too much for the Spirit side, resulting in the 2-0 sweep to reach the Grand Final.
Team Spirit has been eliminated from the tournament, but will play a third-place decider match tomorrow.
Entity Gaming 2-0 Team Liquid
In the previous day, Team Liquid fielded Timado as a stand-in for miCKe, where the squad barely clinched their spot in the Playoffs. In the match against Entity Gaming, the complete Team Liquid squad was present for the series.
Team Liquid got their hands on a Liquid-style draft in the first map, picking lane-winning tempo heroes to end early. However, the draft ended in despair as Entity could repel the pressure and win the game in 28 minutes featuring a watson Pudge.
In the second map, watson was given a 24th pick Meepo in what seemed to be a completely free game for the hero. The series turned out to be anticlimactic, as the map ended in only 29 minutes in Entity ’s favor.
Team Liquid left the running for the title, but will play against Team Spirit in the third-place match.
Overall, either Team Liquid and Team Spirit were expected to win the entire event, but who would have predicted that we’d get a Grand Final between Virtus.pro and Entity? Still, it is refreshing to finally see Entityhave some sort of success since they’ve been down in the dumps for the longest time.
The 1win Series Spring tournament will end tomorrow, and either Virtus.pro or Entity will win their first title in a long time.
