ESL One Kuala Lumpur Day 2: 9 Pandas And Wawitas Sagazes Eliminated

We say goodbye to our first two teams at ESL One Kuala Lumpur. Here’s a recap of Day 2 of the Group Stage!

Group A

Unsponsored South American stack Wawitas Sagazes was the first team eliminated from ESL One Kuala Lumpur after losing 0-4 to Azure Ray and Gaimin Gladiators. They sit with a 1-7 record and cannot survive. Unfortunately, they will take a long flight back home very shortly.

Meanwhile, with six points each, Azure Ray and Gaimin Gladiators are at the top of the charts. They are almost guaranteed a spot in the playoffs, but they will try their best in their remaining matches to secure the Upper Bracket.

Team Secret, BetBoom Team, and Blacklist International find themselves in the middle, with three to four points. Their matches tomorrow will determine which two teams will stay in Kuala Lumpur and which one will join Wawitas Sagazes in elimination.

Overall, Team Secret and Azure Ray are overperforming, based on our initial thoughts before the tournament started.

Group B

Group B also has a team in the same situation as Wawitas Sagazes: 9 Pandas. The Eastern European stack could not attend the tournament with the roster that passed the Open Qualifier, and everything was a mess. 9 Pandas have a 1-7 record, meaning they are guaranteed elimination.

G2.IG had a slow start to the tournament, losing 0-2 to Tundra Esports. However, they have picked up the pace and gone on a six-game winning streak to put themselves at a 6-2 record, projecting an Upper Bracket finish.

Tundra Esports and Falcons sit closely behind with five points and still have a chance to steal one of the two Upper Bracket slots for themselves.

Surprisingly, Team Liquid had another 2-2 day, putting them at a 4-4 record. If the WEU powerhouse does not perform in their last match, there is a real chance that they will get eliminated in groups. They want to send LGD Gaming, who sits below them in the group with three points, in their matchup tomorrow.

Day 3 will be the final day of the Group Stage, with teams playing one Best of 2 series. However, tiebreakers will also be played on the same day if it calls.

ESL One Kuala Lumpur will run from December 11 to 17 and feature a prize pool of $1,000,000. For more frequent updates, visit our Telegram channel!
